Kia Ora ð
Kia Ora! We are Emer and Shane, a couple from Ireland who are coming to the end of our year long working holiday trip in Aotearoa. We have spent the last couple of months doing a kumara planting season in Dargaville, strawberry picking in Waihi, volunteering at festivals in decor and site build in Christchurch and tramping, surfing and discovering Aotearoa in between. We are currently spending Winter in Dunedin where we are working, Shane in ecological restoration landscaping, and Emer in an administrative position in the city council. We will soon be leaving Dunedin to make our way to Auckland to catch our flight home at the end of August, and we are available to housesit on the way (in Christchurch, Kaikoura, Wellington). We enjoy hosting people in our home and value respect and consideration when we are guests in other people’s homes. You can trust that we will take great care to respect your space as well as your privacy.
We love animals and are both caring souls. Shane has shared his childhood and adolescence with a dog, Daisy, and has a a fiercely independent cat at home in Ireland called Judah (kindly minded by parents right now), and Emer is missing greatly her cat Inigo (also minded by Mum!). Both have experience taking care of friend’s animals and would be very happy to look after and spend time with pets and plants too.
 During a stint living in a rural part of the West of Ireland we got stuck in to landscaping work as well as renovation of a heritage cottage. We also have enjoyed experiences on work away projects in Spain, where we received great feedback on our initiative and Shane’s carpentry skills. We are also very open to helping out with projects around the house.
Emer’s professional background is working with NGO’s who support people seeking asylum in Ireland and Shane is an engineer. This year we have been enjoying a year of following our noses and discovering Aotearoa’s people, wildlife and nature – we are keen to continue to make connections and get to know people.
