House Sitting Marlborough

Well known for it’s wines and natural beauty, the Marlborough region is located in the northeast corner of the South Island, just west of Wellington.

Marlborough is well known as New Zealand’s largest region for growing and making wine. Almost all wineries are open to visitors for wine tasting and many have an on-site café or restaurant. The region’s specialty is Sauvignon Blanc, but Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Cabernet Sauvignon are also on the menu.

Marlborough is also well knonw for its straits and sunken valleys. The region is home to many wonderful birds and sea creatures such as terns, shags, blue penguins, dolphins and seals. The Kenepuru and Pelorus Sounds can be explored by ferry, small motorboat, luxury charter launch, kayak or boat.

Bush and mountains rise straight out of the sea here, spectacular landscapes can be admired and hidden coves look simply inviting. The winding waterways of the Marlborough Sounds can be enjoyed through the Queen Charlotte Track. The 43-mile trail winds through lush coastal forest and skirts bays that also offer stunning views of the Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds.

Other alternatives for discovering the beauty of Marlborough’s countryside are guided trout fishing and hunting tours. The average weight of a brown trout in this region is between 1 and 3 kg, depending on the fishing ground.
