Description
We live in a lovely 2 storeyed transitional villa on a 6 hectare block 2 km from the city boundary. We have 12 sheep, 2 cattle, 2 goats, 4 alpacas and two kune kune pigs on the farm. They are all pretty quiet with many of them very tame. I also have a group of ducks, some hens, two aviaries with 11 budgies, 2 cockatiels, one ring neck, 2x african greys and 2 Japanese quail. There are 4 cats and 3 dogs, two of whom have medical needs. Alfie has a bad back and needs a 1/2 ‘valium’ tablet poked into his food each morning and Henry has diabetes so needs an insulin injection each morning and evening at around 7.40pm. [I’d never done this before, but now even my grandchildren do it! So easy!!] His diabetes has been stable for over a year so we don’t expect there to be any issues there.
If you’d like a night or two out, our tenant living down the front of the drive will be happy to pop over and feed the dogs as the time schedule can be a bit challenging!
Our farm is smoke free, other than that we have no strict rules. We have tried to create an environment that animals and birds feel comfortable in. There are areas inside the house where the dogs can and can’t go, but I’ll update you on that if you wish to take us on.
We live next to the river, and the walk/cycle way there is very popular. I walk the dogs there and there is a cafe over the bridge where if you are lucky you can view the nankeen heron in one of only a few habitats in NZ.
We have a large bedroom upstairs with a large ensuite and a cool kids room if needed. The house is very roomy with a heat pump in the main living area and a good wood burner in the second lounge that warms upstairs too. There is a panel heater in the main bedroom.
We have great neighbours who will leave you in peace but are there if needed. Our vets are amazing too, so don’t be concerned about what to do!
It would be important to meet up with you a few days prior to our departure so you can get used to the layout etc
