Description
We are looking for a house-sitter to care for our 4 cats and our wee cottage in Otautau. Start and end dates are flexible.
This small town is very friendly and set in the gorgeous countryside in Southland.
We are 20 minutes from the delightful seaside town of Riverton, 40 minutes from Invercargill and a 2-hour drive from Queenstown.
Our cats need to be fed twice a day and appreciate a snack at lunchtime if you are home. They are inside/outside during the day and inside overnight. One of them requires medication dropped onto her tuna, and two of them get a drop of arthritis syrup daily. They share a litter tray which needs dealing with each morning, and as required. These are rescue cats that we fostered that nobody wanted so we have just kept them.
Our cottage is a 2-bedroom plus sleep-out 1930 bungalow. One bedroom has a king-single ensemble and the second bedroom is home to the computer and the piano. That leaves the day-bed in the lounge for one lucky guest – it is just lovely falling asleep to and waking up to the log burner. So, if you are singles, or a couple who is happy to have your own sleeping space then this might suit you!
We have a vegetable patch and a few seedling trays that would appreciate some water. We have a lovely ‘rustic’ yard with lots of dandelions and it is frequented by bumble bees, tuis and fantails. I don’t own a lawn mower – so you won’t need to mow!
Although we have a large TV screen we don’t have access to public or pay TV. The TV set is too old and we don’t watch it anyway. You can play videos from a laptop and I can leave my laptop here for your use.
If you are looking for peace and quiet and would enjoy walks along the nearby river, or walking into town, or photographing the gorgeous lights of the Aurora then I think you would enjoy staying in Otautau.
