A bit about the property
We are nestled on a quiet road on the northern slopes of Mt pirongia and have an absolutely stunning view over the top of the waikato basin, all across waipa towards Te Aroha and the kaimai ranges on a good day! We get plenty of native birdlife that swoosh about in our 5000sqm of terraced gardens -we even have a resident Kereru, so if you’re a bird photographer and enjoy peace, quiet and serenity – this would be a great spot for you. We are less than 5 mins drive from one of the MT pirongia forrest park walks/cycling tracks and about 10-15mins drive from several other tracks, so if you like bush walks or mountain biking this is definitely your kind of place! https://www.newzealand.com/us/feature/pirongia-forest-park/
Local township of Pirongia is about 10 mins away and has all your basics like a four square and i’d highly recommend the local cafe – Mountain Folk
As our house sitter you would be using the guest room which has its own desk, adjacent sitting room with use of the family bathroom with underfloor heating. Basic wifi and flat screen TV’s (no TV subscriptions sorry) Barista Coffee machine available for your daily fix, Wood burner and heat pumps to keep you toasty. We have a pool however its a little chilly at the moment!
A bit about what we need
We require a house sitter who would be able to be home 95% of the stay, we have an elderly rescue dog -Odin who has anxiety from miss treatment as a young dog and needs to have someone around most of the time. He can handle short absences of a few hours (3-5 hours during the daylight hours) when the sitter could leave the property to go on a walk to get groceries etc, however someone would need to be home when it’s dark and the rest of the time. Will NOT suit someone working 9-5 in town and commuting. Would suit retirees/someone who’s full time work from home or seeing the house sit as a holiday and able to hang around a lot. He doesn’t require walks as his hips are too old and sore, just needs to be fed and have company, he adores pats and attention. He needs to be supervised when outdoors as even with the fence he wanders off and gets into rubbish and all sorts of trouble. He’s happy to sleep and laze about indoors or on the porch most of the day. We also have two free range chickens Bok Bok ad Queenie who need minimal care just throwing some food out for them and ensuring they have water, Bok Bok will allow you to pet her, currently they are not laying eggs as they are molting however if they do lay the house sitter is welcome to eat the eggs!
We have a cat who just comes eats sleeps and leaves, he’s not particularly friendly unfortunately, he’ll just need you to let him in to his bowl and make sure he’s got water
Approximately a week to 10 days from the last weekend in July through august but dates are flexible for the right person, just cannot be during school holidays due to work commitments. We haven’t booked anything yet as we need to find the special someone to look after Odin first.
